Fr. Javier Virgen in his presentation

The Emmaus formation program for Hispanic lay leaders in the Diocese of Salt Lake City continued in April by offering two sessions of intellectual and spiritual formation for the [#) participants. Deacon Armando Solorzano presented a weekend course on the history of the Catholic Church in the U.S. and in Utah. Fr. Javier Virgen, Diocesan Vicar for Hispanic Affairs, made his presentation on Marian Devotion in the Liturgy on April 28. These are two excellent examples of how the Congar Institute collaborates with the dioceses that it serves in identifying and collaborating with local resource persons as an integral part of developing the diocese's capacity for ministry formation.

Family conference at the Diocese of Beaumont, Texas

The Congar Institute assisted with the "Family Conference" organized by the Office of Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Beaumont on March 19. It was held completely in Spanish and was attended by over 2,000 people. The organization of the event was of great proportions, including excellent music, renowned speakers, and workshops for youth and children. My presentation was early in the morning; I was one of the keynote speakers and the topic of my presentation was "Civic Responsibilities of Christians". The participants received the presentation in a very positive way with many people coming up to introduce themselves and share their thoughts with me. The presentation was centered on God's love as a source of transformative power for the individual, the family, and society as a whole. This was based on the fact that the experience of Christ leads to new life, new homes, and hopefully a new society!
